Break Out!

Since time immemorial, certain incarcerated individuals have opted out, successfully escaping from the various jails to which they were sentenced to. While freedom sometimes only lasted a few hours, you have to give them an 'A' for effort. Paul Buck takes a look at various escapes in PRISON BREAK, a 2012 John Blake Publishing release.
Though subtitled TRUE STORIES OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST ESCAPES, Blake, being English, favors Brit escapees. If you had little knowledge of criminals such as Charlie Wilson, Mary Bell, Alan Reeve, Patsy Fleming and Billy Hughes or prisons like Whitemoor, Broadmoor, Parkhurst or Peterhead, Blake's book will be an education in British law and order. True be told, Blake does include other nationalities such as Papillon, Willie Sutton, Frank Morris and the Anglin Brothers of Alcatraz fame, Frenchman Pascal Payet who favored helicopters, IRA escapees McAuley and Quinlivan, etc.
Likewise, PRISON BREAK's coverage extends back to the 18th and 19th Century with tales of James Watson Laurie exiting Peterhead Prison, Jean-Henri Latude escaping from Vincennes Castle, etc. Sometimes the escapes came from the slammer, other times a court room, prison van and so on. Though the escapes are gripping, what I found equally fascinating were the post-escape details Blake supplied.
PRISON BREAK will appeal to crime fans around the world. Recommended.
